About Us

Present Day

Coldwood National School is a Catholic school under the Patronage of the Archbishop of Tuam. Though we are a catholic school with a much defined catholic ethos we welcome children of all religious and non-religious backgrounds.

The present Board of Management was elected in December 2015 to manage the school for a four year period.  The Board is made up of two Patron’s nominees, the  Principal ,  a teacher nominee, two elected parents, and two nominees from the community.

We have a very active Parents Association in the school.  The association promotes the general welfare of the school, organising various activities within the school, social events and fundraisers to help improve the facilities.  Members of the Parents Association are elected at the Annual General Meeting which takes place in October of each year.

The school uniform consists of navy pinafore or trousers, gold polo shirt, navy jumper or cardigan with crest.  Indoor runners are also required.

Pupils are asked to have a note if for some valid reason they are unable to wear their full uniform.

Good attendance is always encouraged. A note from parents is required when a child is absent. Where pupils are absent for 20 days or more the school is obliged to notify the Tusla (Child and Family Agency)

Pupils have homework from Monday to Thursday.

Newsletters and Text-a-Parent are our two main ways  of communicating with parents.

Weekly School Draw  is our means of fund-raising for the school. .

Accident Cover

Pupils pay for 24 hour accident insurance cover at the start of each year.

In the event of minor accidents staff will treat cuts or bruises. Where there is immediate concern or where accidents are deemed more serious parents will be contacted straight away. If necessary the school will contact the hospital or ambulance service. Serious accidents are recorded in our Accidents and Incidents Book.

Reports from outside agencies

To facilitate implementation of effective programmes it is important that copies of reports from outside agencies or former schools are made available.

Progress Reports

Parent/Teacher meetings are held in November. Reports are sent home at the end of each school year.

The results of standardised tests (sten scores) are included from 1st class to 6th class.

Teachers may ask to meet with parents from time to time or may write in the homework diary.
